High performance and livability

High-performing teams are recognized by their results: by the extent to which they meet or exceed their goals. That’s one aspect. But it’s not the only one.

Anyone who has ever worked in a highly effective and successful team knows what we’re talking about: You share a common vision, common values, and at least one common goal. Everyone participates with genuine enthusiasm. They feel valued and are happy to contribute. Competition exists, but it’s playful. They know they depend on one another and trust each other. They speak frankly; conflicts are brought to the table, just as is the often overwhelming appreciation they have for one another. The team is attractive to outsiders; others want to be part of it. Everyone is eager to work together again and again, and more and more.

Such a team is not only highly high-performing. It is also, to a great extent, life-affirming (in the sense of: serving the personal well-being of each individual team member).

Building a culture of trust

Meaningful relationship-building and conflict resolution are possible when people engage with one another and take risks (e.g., self-disclosure, giving feedback, confrontation, asking for support, setting boundaries, admitting weakness and vulnerability, openly expressing anger and dissatisfaction...). A much-vaunted culture of trust arises exclusively on the basis of such risks.

With our services in team development, facilitation, and conflict counseling, we support teams of 2 to 30 people in understanding their own dynamics and consciously managing them, accepting and leveraging differences, and (truly) communicating with one another (rather than just pretending to). And with our services for large groups, we dare—together with you—to tackle the very specific dynamics that can unfold when many people (30–500) gather in one place around a common topic... and truly want and need to make a difference together.

What we generally do not offer: (comfort) band-aids, support for inefficient, vague facilitation that misses the mark by a hair’s breadth, workshops with hidden agendas, or purely team-building events with high fun factor and low impact.

A strong team: (Top) performance AND the joy of working together. Cooperation AND competition. Appreciation AND conflict. The bad news: Even a Janus consultant can’t change your team. The good news: Team members and the boss can. Janus team development focuses primarily on the attitudes and behaviors of individuals.

Facilitation and Facilitating large groups

Almost anyone can just go through the motions of an agenda. All it takes is a strong nerve or a thick skin. The art of facilitation lies in keeping the goal and the agenda in mind AND giving the group room for (necessary, perceived, or annoying-but-productive) detours and digressions. This is a very demanding task, especially if you are personally involved in the topic and/or leading the group.

An organizational conference with Janus aims to transform the DNA of your organization: the way people work together and communicate, the way they interact and listen to one another. It aims to generate new solutions and innovative ideas. And in doing so, it is more than just facilitating a gathering of many people in one place; it is more than large-scale entertainment. It drives powerful change in line with your company’s goals.

Feedback from Pia Steinberger, Head of Department at MunichRe Regarding a departmental offsite with Janus consultant Dr. Carsten Schäper

Dear Mr. Schäper, thank you very much for your email and the photo protocol. I can truly say that the workshop set something very positive in motion. We had our jour fixe on Tuesday and a "changed spirit" was palpable. There are initial agreements on what we want to do differently in the future, and the goal of getting to know each other much better has also been very well achieved. I can really say that this workshop was one of the most successful I have ever participated in (and I have certainly attended many, albeit in different roles). Working with you was a very good experience, and I sincerely hope that another opportunity for collaboration arises. […] I wish you a pleasant rest of the week and look forward to hearing from you again. Best regards, Pia Steinberger

There are rarely seminars from which the employees return so enthusiastic and motivated as after this Workshop, which you can also read in black and white in the evaluation.
